The Search Is Over! This is the Best Tour for Foodies in Osaka

Today we will focus on Osaka, known by foodies as the town of Kuidaore!! This means that it’s so hard to stop buying delicious foods that you will go broke! There are countless savory foods here in Osaka!! So, let’s list some local gourmet foods that you can eat only in Osaka! To do that, we asked Osaka locals to tell us about the best restaurants that they think serve the tastiest foods! We simply asked the following question. “What is a local food people should definitely try in Osaka?” “Takoyaki” is the first thing to spring to mind for locals. It is definitely one of the top answers.
Takoyaki is a kind of baked flour dumpling that contains a small piece of octopus. This is Takoyaki as served at the table. Depending on your preference the Takoyaki can be topped with any combination of dried bonito flakes, sea weed powder, sweet sauce and mayonnaise. And they are unbelievably tasty. By the way, Takoyaki experts load heaps of spring onions on top and mix them with the mayonnaise. There are countless numbers of Takoyaki shops in Osaka but which ones are worth visiting?

This is one of the best Takoyaki shops in Osaka!!
If you would like to eat Takoyaki in the Dotonbori area, this is the place to go. We ordered “O-iri(大入り)” (Big Mix) since we wanted to try some different flavors. This will give you 4 different flavors, sweet sauce, soy sauce, salt, and grated Daikon radish for 500 yen (two balls for each flavor). Takoyaki Doraku Wanaka serves the classic Takoyaki balls, “crispy outside and oozy inside". What creates “Wanaka” signature flavor is that they use strong “dashi” (broth) in their batter. Honestly, you don’t need any sauce. Since their Takoyaki have dashi in their batter, you can enjoy the taste of the Takoyaki itself with salt. The first thing you should do when you come to Dotonbori is to eat Osaka soul food, Takoyaki!

But what about the Kushikatsu (deep fried meat or vegies on a skewer) which almost every guidebook and gourmet magazine recommends? There are probably many people who consider Kushikatsu the classic food of Osaka. So, we asked Osaka locals. And the answer was “we don’t actually eat it very often". Maybe that is because that unlike Takoyaki, there are not many families that eat Kushikatsu at home. This made us ask another question, “so, is Kushikatsu not as tasty"? They said it was, and recommended some good, popular Kushikatsu restaurants. From our conversations with locals, we found people in Osaka to be very kind. This is a restaurant they recommended! Actually, it is a famous restaurant that many Osaka travel magazines pick up. Osaka's old town classic! Kushikatsu

Ganso Kushikatsu Daruma, Tsutenkaku has its original location in the Shinsekai area where you can feel Osaka’s local atmosphere. This restaurant is always busy with customers, and in addition to Kushikatsu, it has a wide selection of snacks. At this restaurant, you can’t dip your Kushikatsu in the sauce more than once. We wondered why, so we conducted some research and found out that this rule was set for sanitation reasons. Gamso Kushikatsu Daruma, Tsutenkaku, located in the home of Kushikatsu, Shisekai, provides a stainless case filled with thin Worcester sauce at each table as a permanent condiment. Because the customers share the sauce, it is believed that the rule “don’t dip more than once” was made implicitly. This rule reflects one of the characteristics of Osaka people, who prioritize others. That’s something to be noted. There are many mouth-watering local foods in Osaka. Other than Takoyaki and Kushikatsu which we have already mentioned, we can quickly think of Okonomiyaki, Tecchiri, Ikayaki, and a list of many more delicious foods that are waiting for you. This is indeed the Kuidaore town! When you visit Osaka, be sure to try eating many different local foods! You will be filled up and satisfied for sure.
Have a savory trip.
